Pluralising agency to understand behaviour change in sustainability transitions

Reverse-engineering Distributed Applications to Understand Their Behaviour Reverse-engineering Distributed Applications to Understand Their Behaviour
Understanding the behaviour of distributed applications is a very challenging task, due to their complexity. To manage this complexity, the top-down use of suitable abstraction hierarchies is frequently proposed. Given the size of distributed applications, manually deriving such abstraction hierarchies seems not realistic. This paper discusses tools that automate the derivation of suitable abst...
متن کاملImportance of Actors and Agency in Sustainability Transitions: A Systematic Exploration of the Literature
This article explores the role of actors and agency in the literature on sustainability transitions. We reviewed 386 journal articles on transition management and sustainability transitions listed in Scopus from 1995 to 2014. We investigate the thesis that actors have been neglected in this literature in favor of more abstract system concepts. Results show that this thesis cannot be confirmed o...
متن کاملBehaviour Change for Sustainability: Keeping Promises: Do Pledges Work?
"A popular component of many behaviour change efforts involves asking a person to make a commitment, or “pledge”, to undertake the desired behaviour. This typically involves getting them to sign their name to a promise to save water/energy/emissions. The common perception is that this will make them more accountable, and thus more likely to follow through on the requested behaviours. This month...
متن کاملBehaviour change for better health: nutrition, hygiene and sustainability
As the global population grows there is a clear challenge to address the needs of consumers, without depleting natural resources and whilst helping to improve nutrition and hygiene to reduce the growth of noncommunicable diseases. For fast-moving consumer goods companies, like Unilever, this challenge provides a clear opportunity to reshape its business to a model that decouples growth from a n...
متن کاملBuilding agents to understand infant attachment behaviour
This paper reports on an autonomous agent simulation of infant attachment behaviour. The behaviours simulated have been observed in home environments and in a controlled laboratory procedure called the Strange Situation Experiment. The Avoidant, Secure and Ambivalent styles of behaviour seen in these studies are outlined, and then abstracted to their core elements to act as a specification of r...
